I was delighted to come across the Development Update of the Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria under Governor Biodun Oyebanji and see our work at OA Initiative captured (pg. 19, subsection 9).
It reminded me of how far we’ve come:
Until our conversation with the Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme (EKSHIA), People Living with Sickle Cell Disease (Warriors) were not included in the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Today, through this partnership over the past 3 years, 600+ warriors have been enrolled and are enjoying free healthcare access – from primary health centers to tertiary health facilities.
This milestone was made possible by the dedication of our team leads, volunteers, and warriors at OA Initiative, as well as the unwavering support of the Ekiti State Government.
🙏 Thank you to the Government of Ekiti State for prioritizing inclusive healthcare. We look forward to even more robust opportunities for Sickle Cell Warriors in the state as we continue to push for better.
