O.A INITIATIVE REPRESENTED COECSO ON COMMUNITY OUTREACH ON SOCIAL PROTECTION PROGRAMS which was held on Tuesday, 18th November 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Cathedral Church Hall, Orereowu Community, Ado LGA.
Mercy Bamisaye represented O.A Initiative at the community outreach organised by NISD under the ACT Naija Project. The session brought together community members of Orereowu, CSOs, and key stakeholders to discuss existing social protection programs in Ekiti State and to gather feedback from beneficiaries on their challenges and lived experiences.
During the interactive engagements, she had the opportunity to introduce OA Initiative and highlight our ongoing developing partnership with the @Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme (EKHIS) aimed at providing free healthcare access for individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease in Ekiti State.
She gained insight into the impact of Nigeria’s existing social protection programmes, (with focus on the impact in Ekiti state) such as N-Power, the Homegrown School Feeding Programme, and Welfare for the Elderly, as well as the emergence of newer initiatives like Ekiti State's primary health initiatives, such as the "Úlérà Wà," Health Insurance Programme and the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project, which are significantly improving healthcare access for Pregnant women, children, The disabled and the elderly, while eliminating financial barriers.
The audience were enlightened on the central purpose of these programmes, which is to offer income and consumption support to people living in poverty, safeguard vulnerable groups from falling into destitution, and strengthen the social status and rights of marginalised populations. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce both the economic and social vulnerabilities faced by these groups.
The outreach provided a valuable platform for visibility and strengthened our organisation’s connection with both community leaders and MDAs present.
OA Initiative remains committed to contributing to improved health access and supporting state-level efforts to expand inclusive social protection systems.
